Technology in the Church
by Bryan Arabian on May.22, 2009, under General
It is amazing to me how our culture can change so fast anymore. I am preparing a message to give to other churdch leaders regarding technology in ministry and I found that a lot of the current stats show an upswing in technology use but along with that upswing is another stat. People are suffering from lonliness. WHAT? Yea, we are one of the most connected nations. For instance I can finid my wife at anytime using her cell phones GPS system up to 100 feet! So what is up with the lonliness? I think that once again we as a nation are trying to replace God. We are trying to fill the void in our hearts with shiny new things that companies market as a fix all solution. On the run, they say, why not get the iplum and surf the net, check your email, and talk on the phone all at the same time! But it doesn””t replace God. God is the only thing that can bring us happiness, and ultimatley fill that void in our lives. As a church we do embrace the tech-y world as we all need more of Jesus, but let us be careful how we proceed. Paul wrote that we are to be in the world but not of it (1 Cor 9:19-23).
Isn’t it ironic! Here I am typing out a blog talking about technology! That is because technology is a tool, no a replacment.
Until next time friends, God Bless.
First Youth Group Service
by Bryan Arabian on May.04, 2009, under General
So here I am at the church watching 29 young people getting ministered to by 7 adult “leaders”. This is truley a beautiful sight. Being in youth ministery for soooo long, I am enjoying what I see. But it shows me so much more. There is a real need in our community for our young people. (Not that it was a huge revelation, I have known this for a long time.) When I drive into town I see that we won an award as a community for having one of the most “playful” communities in our nation. So they have entertainment, but I see such a hunger for sooooo much more. They are trying to fill a void in there life, a void that will only be filled with a relationship with God. So to Craig, Tina, Vicky Dawn, Paul, Jason, Lisa, Robert and everyone else: Thanks for having the courage and fortitute to help show our young people a way to a fulfilling life. This battle for their souls is an uphill battle and there will be many challenges ahead, but this is a battle that we really need to win. Thanks again, and God Bless!
